BRACE

The BRACE position describes a protective posture intended to shield against a hard impact, e.g. when an aeroplane makes an emergency landing. The plane crash is a singular phenomenon in comparison to the existential dangers of everyday life.
Efforts to avoid everyday crashes create an extremely complex system, within which “living” is reformulated as “surviving”.

BRACE Positions

The figure BRACE sounds out these dangers in a new way: its “safety positions” are fresh interpretations of places and forms of behaviour, with which it cancels out social conventions and evades any objectification.
It conquers space in already occupied terrain.
As the re-interpreter of reality, BRACE is a freedom fighter of a special kind - an illusionary catapulted out of the social context.

The work BRACE consists of a series of photographs (BRACE Positions 1-8, 70x110 resp. 110x70cm), performances and social interventions.

  

BRACE

Die Position BRACE beschreibt eine Schutzhaltung, die vor einem harten Aufprall, z.B. bei der Notlandung eines Flugzeugs, schützen soll. Der Flugzeugabsturz ist eine singuläre Erscheinung im Vergleich zu den existentiellen Gefahren im Alltag. Die Anstrengungen zur Vermeidung alltäglicher Abstürze bilden ein hochkomplexes System innerhalb dessen „leben“ in „überleben“ umformuliert wird.

BRACE Positions

Die Figur BRACE lotet diese Gefahren neu aus: ihre „safety positions“ sind Umdeutungen von Orten und Verhaltensweisen, womit sie das gesellschaftliche Regelwerk aushebelt und sich jeglicher Objektivierung entzieht.
Sie erobert Raum in besetztem Gelände. Als Realitätsumdeuterin ist BRACE eine Freiheitskämpferin der besonderen Art - eine aus dem gesellschaftlichen katapultierte Illusionärin.

Die Arbeit BRACE besteht aus einer Serie von Fotografien (BRACE Positions 1-8, 70x110 bzw. 110x70cm), Performances und sozialen Interventionen.
